Washington Maritime Blue is a non-profit organization that works to develop business, technology and practices that innovate in the blue economy sector. They create alliances with government, research, industries, and community members to work towards a maritime economy that is ecologically sustainable, technologically innovative and supports thriving communities. They have many sub-organizations and ventures and needed guidance on creating a strong new parent brand and clear organized sub-brands and partnerships.
I worked with a small team of designers over the summer of 2024, both as a director and as a designer depending on team schedules. We developed a brand identity that referenced the maritime economy and ecological beauty of the NW waterways, but also looked forward to scientific and technological discovery. We worked quickly through the mood board ,concept, and mockup phases, meeting with the client team frequently, so we could land a brand direction efficiently to stay within the limited budget.
At the end of the branding project we delivered brand guidelines, main logo and sub brand logo guidance (they asked not to change the logo design), word doc and PPT template collateral, and conceptual website designs that they could use in the future when there would be more budget for a website redesign.
In 2025 WA Maritime Blue engaged with us again to implement a lower lift re-design of their site using only CMS updates. Visit the Washington Maritime Blue Website.
